6. Karaoke with Locals

You may have heard Japanese people like karaoke. But you might not fully understand the passion people have for this pastime. It is something you need to experience first hand.
Japanese karaoke bars are set up differently than the typical North American “karaoke night” at the pub where you get up in front of all the patrons and drunkenly belt out your favourite tune. In Japan you are assigned to a private room where you can sing with only your own group. You can usually request the all-you-can-drink experience and have beer or mix drinks delivered to you in the room all night.
Wait around in the lobby of a karaoke bar until you find a group of fun Japanese people to join. Most Japanese people will be too polite to say no when you ask. When it’s your turn to sing, choose a Bon Jovi hit and you’ll have friends for life!
